Sturdy is the result of more than a decade of developing skills, concepts, and relationships. Over the course of 6 years with his first yurt build, Derek took the shelter with him on several hunting trips and even lived in it for a year in Northern Minnesota to slowly modify and improve the design. Sturdy was founded by Derek with a goal of connecting people to the shelters they occupy and the objects they use while making memories in the great outdoors.

Through the process of designing, building, and installing yurts of varying dimensions, Sturdy offers a solid, dry, warm and unique space to step away from the day to day routine and choose your own adventure.

Because the primary three dimensions we offer are 14, 16 and 18 foot diameters, Sturdy can accommodate mobility and portability without sacrificing stability. If you want more than the basic yurt package, we offer upgrades to add from a wood stove, to insulation, additional windows and more.
